What is a Board-Certified Specialist?
Doctors who have advanced training in a specialty service and have completed
a two- or three-year residency program and one-year internship. After
successfully passing a board exam, they attain board certification
in their specialty.
What is a Residency-Trained Doctor?
Veterinary specialists trained in a distinct area of expertise after veterinary
school to provide cutting-edge knowledge for care of pets. Areas of
specialty include critical care, internal medicine and surgery, just
to name a few.
Often, your veterinarian will refer your pet to a specialist when your pet needs more in-depth diagnostics, surgery, or around-the-clock critical care. A board-certified veterinarian is a doctor who completes additional education in a specific field of veterinary medicine. Once the education is complete, the doctor must pass a thorough written and oral board exam to become “board certified.”
